SOFTBALL: DMS wins Z-R tournament

</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[On Saturday morning, DuQuoin Middle School traveled to Zeigler-Royalton to take part in a tournament. DuQuoin first played the Tornadoes in a shortened game. The game only lasted four innings, as the mercy rule, was applied. DuQuoin walloped Z-R 16-0. DuQuoin&#39;s record after this win was 13-4.

Emily Born was the winning pitcher. Born pitched all four innings facing only fourteen batters. She allowed no runs, one hit, had no walks, 7 strikeouts, and a wild pitch. Born&#39;s record is 1-1. Zeigler-Royalton used three different pitchers. The losing pitcher was Jeralds. She went 1 inning hitting three batters, allowed 3 unearned runs, had one walk, and 3 strikeouts. Sanders relieved going 1/3 inning. She also hit 3 batters, allowed ten runs (8 earned), had 2 walks, and allowed 1 hit. The final pitcher was Barger, who allowed 3 runs (2 unearned), four hits, had 5 walks, and 2 strikeouts. She pitched 2 2/3 innings.

DuQuoin had two errors in the contest, and Z-R had 5. DuQuoin had 5 hits. The majority of DuQuoin batters got on base either by an error, a walk, or were hit by the pitch.

Sydney Lewis was hit by a pitch, had a walk, and a single with three RBI. Avery Shivley had a hit with two RBI. Hannah Marek was 1-3 with an RBI. Jordyn Bullar was 1-3 with an RBI. Brittany Clark had a walk, was hit by a pitch, and had a double with an RBI. Lindsey Feltmeyer had a walk. Nikki Ridgeway had a walk and was hit by a pitch. Timbra Mansfield had two walks. Grace Haney had a walk. Alaina Caldwell was hit by a pitch twice in the same inning. Taylor Gates had a walk. Kat Robison had a walk and was hit by a pitch. Other Warriors in the game were Savannah Tweedy, Alex Gossman, and Sadie Day.

DuQuoin next took on Crab Orchard in a game that went seven innings. DuQuoin was the winner 2-0. DuQuoin scored one run in the fourth and one run in the sixth. Each team committed one error in the contest.

Bullar was the winning pitcher going all seven innings. She allowed no runs, on two hits, had 3 walks, and 10 strikeouts. Her record is 13-2. The team&#39;s record is 14-4 overall.

DuQuoin had six hits in the game. Bullar was 2-3. Clark was 2-3. Caldwell was 1-3 with a double. Harley Dearmond was 1-3.

DuQuoin Middle School received the first place trophy for going 2-0 in the tournament.

Coach Jason James was very proud of his team. "This may have been one of our best games of the season. We faced a good team with a strong pitcher. Crab Orchard&#39;s record coming into the game was 15-1. This was a good overall effort for us."

DuQuoin Middle School has a home game on Monday with District #204. Tuesday they travel to Trico, and on Thursday DMS will play Johnston City at home.
