GOLF: Lady Panthers top Carterville; Boys beaten by Benton, Massac
</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[Even on an off-day, Heather McDaniel still found a way to keep her streak of consecutive medalist awards going on Tuesday, tying Carterville's Dana Kaufmann and Adrian Brown with a score of 39 (+3) at Red Hawk Golf Club while the Lady Panthers won the team match by six strokes.
McDaniel's win made her a medalist for the fourth time in the 2011 season in as many opportunities. Alexis Anderson (45), Olivia Mathis (48) and Brooke Heisner (53) completed PCHS's score of 186. Huntar Monje (50) and Paige Liddell (62) completed the Lady Lions' total of 192.
Pinckneyville's girls (7-3) are off until Friday, when they will host the 2011 Lady Panther Invitational at Red Hawk beginning at 3:30 p.m. Other teams participating include Nashville, Anna-Jonesboro, Marissa-Coulterville, Murphysboro, Okawville, Red Bud, Steeleville, Trico and Woodlawn.
Pinckneyville's boys golf team was at Benton on Tuesday to meet two of the area's top teams in the host Rangers and fellow visitor Massac County, but despite quality rounds from Adam Valentine (41) and Lee Wittenauer (42), were outmatched by the other more experienced squads.
Benton claimed the match with a team score of 148, posting four scores in the 30's on the par 36 course. Massac was second with a total of 153, the Panthers third at 180.
Michael Seifert (47), Patrick Kovic (50), Kyle Brocaille (51) and Will Travis (52) also participated for the PCHS boys.
The Panthers return to the course on Thursday when they host Murphysboro and Woodlawn at Red Hawk Golf Club (4:00 p.m.).
