SOFTBALL: DMS wins #204 Invititational

</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[The DuQuoin Middle School softball team traveled to Pinckneyville on Saturday and returned with the trophy for winning the 2011 #204 Invitational tournament.

The first game had DuQuoin and St. Bruno&#39;s playing. DuQuoin only played five innings defeating St. Bruno&#39;s 11-0.

Jordyn Bullar was the winning pitcher going four innings. She allowed no runs, no hits, had 5 strikeouts, and one walk. Emily Born relieved in the fifth. She allowed no runs, one hit, had 3 strikeouts, and no walks. Bullar&#39;s record is 2-1 after this win.

DuQuoin had nine hits in the contest. Sydney Lewis had an RBI with two walks. Avery Shivley was 1-1. Jordyn Bullar was 2-2 both doubles and an RBI. Nikki Ridgeway was 1-2 with an RBI. Harley Dearmond was 1-3, a double and two RBI. Timbra Mansfield was 1-1. Alaina Caldwell walked twice and scored a run. Kat Robison was 3-3 with a double and 3 RBI. Also seeing action were Hannah Marek and Brittany Clark.

Later in the day DuQuoin played Chester. DuQuoin had played Chester earlier in the week and lost 8-6, but this game was different. DuQuoin defeated Chester 10-0 in six innings.

The winning pitcher was Jordyn Bullar (3-1). She pitched all six innings allowing no runs, 4 hits, had 7 strikeouts, and walked 3 batters.

DuQuoin tallied twelve hits in the contest. Sydney Lewis was 2-4 with a double. Hannah Marek was 2-4. Jordyn Bullar was 2-4 with an RBI. Brittany Clark was 2-4 with two RBI. Harley Dearmond was 2-3 with two doubles and 3 RBI. Timbra Mansfield was 1-2. Alaina Caldwell was 1-3 with a double and two RBI. Others seeing action for the Warriors were: Grace Haney, Nikki Ridgeway, Kat Robison, and Andrea Morgan.

The Warriors are now 3-3 for the season.

Coach Jason James thought: "We played very well today! We played an all-around great two games, from our pitching, to hitting, and especially our defense. We did not commit an error all day. We were focused today, and made several great plays and a ton of timely hits. We have to keep this type of intensity every game. I can&#39;t say enough about the girls. I am very proud of them today."

DMS travels to Sparta on Monday and then to Murphysboro on Tuesday.

<u>Carterville defeats DMS boys</u>

DuQuoin Middle School Baseball only had the opportunity to play one game on Saturday, and that was against Carterville. Harrisburg elected not to participate in the Jaycee&#39;s Tournament. Unfortunately, DuQuoin took the loss with Carterville winning 15-5 in six innings.

DuQuoin scored two runs in the first inning, one in the third, fifth, and sixth innings. Carterville scored in every inning, but the third for their 15 runs. The big inning was in the second when they scored six runs.

DuQuoin had 8 hits in the contest. Cole Hopkins was 2-3. Brock Bullar was 2-4 with a double and a solo home run, and an RBI. Tucker Kuhnert was 1-4. Ryne O&#39;Rourke was 1-3 with an RBI. Braden Lee was 1-3 a double, with 2 RBI. Trace Klein was 1-3.

The losing pitcher was Tucker Kuhnert, who pitched 1 1/3 innings allowing 7 runs on 5 hits. Ryne O&#39;Rourke pitched 3 2/3 inning allowing 5 runs on five hits. Jordan Edwards went 1/3 of an inning allowing 3 runs on 1 hit. Cole Hopkins finished with 2/3 of an inning, allowing no runs and no hits. Kuhnert&#39;s record is 0-1. The team record is 2-3 on the season.

Coach Tim Craft said, "Carterville is a pretty good hitting team. We gave them too many opportunities to score runs, and they did."

DuQuoin travels to Sparta on Monday.
