Election Fallout: Alongi out, Giannoulias in as Chairman of Community College Board
</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[In what most view as political fallout from Guy Alongi's loss this spring to incumbent Mayor John Rednour, Illinois Gov. Pat Quinn has appointed former state treasurer and failed U.S. senate candidate Alexi Giannoulias the new chairman of the Illinois Community College Board.
The recently published summer newsletter of the ICC indicates that Alongi resigned his position as chair, but remains on the board in other roles.
Quinn picked the 35-year-old Democrat to serve in the unpaid, part-time post.
Quinn on Wednesday called him ''the right guy for the job.'' His appointment still needs to be confirmed by the Illinois Senate.
A former banker, Giannoulias is not an educator by profession but he is no stranger to Illinois politics. Giannoulias says a well-trained workforce is essential to America's success, and community colleges play a vital role in that.
