City council determines no intent on alderman residency issue
</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[ At the August 1 Chester City council meeting, aldermen found no intent on Alderman Richard Brueggemann residency.
Former Alderman Dan Colvis brought it to the council's attention at the last council meeting that Alderman Brueggemann was residing outside of his ward.
City Attorney Jeff Kerkhover explained to the council intent and non intent.
"There's no time, no magic number. It's a question of intent," he told the council.
Alderman Brueggemann told the council he is trying to work a deal on a certain house within his ward.
Resident Bill Knowles told the council he thinks they need to set a standard.
The council voted their was no intent and the matter was closed.
Also at the meeting Chief of Police Don?McKinney requested the council allow him to hire three part time officers for the department.
Alderman Nancy Crossland stated she wanted it to be fair and for everyone. She requested it be opened up for other applicants.
Alderman Mike Blechle stated the issue was not run by the police committee.
A Public Safety Committee special meeting was set for August 4 to discuss the matter.
In other council news:
Two proposals were approved for Mueller painting. The painting is for the exterior of city hall and painting at the Gazebo Park.
The next council meeting will be held Monday,?August 15 at 7:00 p.m. at city hall in the council chambers.
