</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[Du Quoin High School students began registration for fall classes on Monday and it gave newly named Du Quoin High School principal Tammy Beckham a chance to both see and be seen by this year's student body.

Registration continues through Wednesday.

Last week, she had the pleasure of being part of the Rosemary Pullis scholarship committee that presented its 27th scholarship to a deserving DHS alum. That scholarship went to Neil Patel.

Mrs. Beckham grew up in Mount Vernon, was graduated from the Mount Vernon High School, attended Rend Lake College and received her Bachelor's Degree in math from SIU-Edwardsville. Her post-graduate work included a Masters Degree in education administration from Eastern Illinois University with a superintendent's certification.

She taught for a year at Salem High School, taught for eight years at Mount Vernon High School, then served as an assistant principal at the Sandoval High School. She has been the assistant principal at the Mount Vernon High School for the past seven years.

She and husband Bill have two children, Rachel and Alex, who are enrolled in the Woodlawn Elementary School. She was a student athlete herself, competing in women's basketball and soccer. "I enjoy sporting events," she adds. "I look forward to meeting the people in the community," she said, and she looks forward to watching the new construction at the Du Quoin High School evolve.
