Haberberger informs Board of Commissioners about Electronics Recycling Day

CHESTER - Sydney Haberberger, Girl Scout, came to the Board of Commissioners meeting on Friday, July 22, to announce that she would be holding another Electronics Recycling Day on Saturday, August 13, from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. The event will be held at the Randolph County Health Department, 2515 State Street, Chester.
Tom Smith, Randolph County Health Department, told the Board that he would be happy to come to the courthouse to pick up electronic items from the county offices for the recycling day. Haberberger told the board that all the items are refurbished if possible, and that hard drives are reprogrammed and destroyed.
Haberberger held this event in May and filled an entire semi truck trailer, she still received calls and decided to go ahead and do another one.
This is her project to earn her Girl Scout Gold Award, which is the highest honor a Girl Scout can receive.
The Electronics Recycling Day is an event for you to recycling your used or obsolete electronics in a safe and proper manner. The Recycling is free of charge, although businesses with a large number of items may be charged a fee. For more information you can call 826-4457. Haberberger said "bring us anything that has a cord or uses batteries."
Smith told the Board that the Health Department had received their generator last week that they had received a grant to purchase. It is a 30 kilo watt that takes diesel fuel and will run approximately 30 hours on one tank of fuel. The generator is on a trailer and is to be used by the County.
A special use zoning permit was issued for Derrick Knop. The Zoning Board recommended that the Board allow a residence, buildings and two acres of land to be released from farm land south of Steeleville.
Steve Gonzalez gave his resignation from the Merit Board and Larry Gross was appointed to finish the term which ends April 2015.
Ken Slaves reported that they are still working at the Care Center to find the most economical way to replace the old fire alarm system. He said that false alarms go off on a regular basis and every time the fire department responds.
They have 53 residents.
Sheriff Mike Hoelscher informed the Board that the county had $8,000 in storm damages mostly from lightening that was covered 100% by their insurance company.
The County has received 13 million in payments for the first installment of taxes. The second installment is due on September 2nd. After August 1st monies will be distributed to the taxing entities.
The Board of Commissioners meeting scheduled for August 19 has been moved to August 23 at 5p.m.
