SWIMMING: 'Swim Your Own Age' Invite highlights busy week of swimming
</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[A busy four days of swimming wrapped up on Sunday, with both teams from Perry County representing themselves well as Du Quoin won easily at Harrisburg on Sunday after another comfortable win at home against Salem on Thursday, the same night Pinckneyville was victorious at Red Bud.
Both the Indians and the Dolphins were in action on Saturday as Du Quoin Municipal Pool played host for the "Swim-Your-Own-Age" Invitational, which drew 412 area swimmers. While 16-year-old Deanne Brand was the only Pinckneyville swimmer to bring home a win (she picked up two), two Du Quoin swimmers claimed four first place finishes and a third finished with three.
Brand won the girls 16-year-old 50m backstroke and 50m butterfly events for the Dolphins, also finishing second twice (50m freestyle, 50m breaststroke).
For the Indians, 10-year-old Olivia Cravens continued her torrid pace in the pool this season with four wins, as did 15-year-old Jerry Kuhnert. Cravens, who has won a total of 10 individual events since Thursday, July 14, took first in the girls 10-y/o 25m freestyle, 25m backstroke, 25m breaststroke and 25m butterfly. Kuhnert, also a winner of 10 events in the last three meets, was the best in the boys 15-y/o 50m freestyle, 50m backstroke, 50m breaststroke and 50m butterfly.
Cody Bailey was the only other Indian with multiple wins at the Invitational, winning the boys 14-y/o 50m freestyle, 50m backstroke, and 50m butterfly.
Lauren Cravens (girls 9-y/o 25m butterfly), Courtney Rudloff (girls 14-y/o 50m breaststroke), Miranda Payne (girls 16-y/o 50m breaststroke), Jakob Eaton (boys 6&un 25m backstroke), Paxton Higgerson (boys 10-y/o 25m breaststroke), Nicholas King (boys 12-y/o 50m backstroke), and Chris Zuck (boys 12-y/o 50m butterfly) also picked up wins for the Swimming Indians at the SYOA Invite.
An estimated total of 700 swimmers and on-lookers attended the Invitational.

<u>Du Quoin slams Salem</u>
DU QUOIN - On Thursday, Du Quoin hosted Salem and took care of business with a 460-188 team as six Swimming Indians won three solo events.
O. Cravens (girls 9-10 50m freestyle, 25m butterfly, 100m individual medley), Rudloff (girls 13-14 100m freestyle, 50m breaststroke, 100m IM), Higgerson (boys 9-10 25m freestyle, 50m freestyle, 100m IM), C. Bailey (boys 13-14 50m freestyle, 100m freestyle, 50m butterfly), J. Kuhnert (boys 15-18 100m freestyle, 50m butterfly, 100m IM) and Caseton Luthy (boys 15-18 50m freestyle, 100m backstroke, 100m breaststroke) were the triple winners for Du Quoin.
Haley Kuhnert (girls 11-12 100m freestyle, 50m breaststroke), Quinn Kirkpatrick (girls 11-12 50m backstroke, 50m butterfly), Madeline Cravens (girls 13-14 50m backstroke, 50m butterfly), Eaton (boys 6&un 25m freestyle, 25m backstroke), Zuck (boys 11-12 50m butterfly, 100m IM), and Matthew Galik (boys 13-14 50m breaststroke, 100m IM) each won two events against Salem.
Other individual winners from Du Quoin on Thursday were Josie Bailey (girls 9-10 25m freestyle), Rachel Gomes (girls 9-10 25m breaststroke), L. Cravens (girls 9-10 25m breaststroke), Victoria Cavitt (girls 13-14 50m freestyle), Melania Harsy (girls 15-18 100m breaststroke), Payne (girls 15-18 100m IM), Jacob Harsy (boys 708 25m freestyle), Tyler VanZandt (boys 7-8 25m breaststroke), Shamar Adams (boys 9-10 25m backstroke), Jacob Green (boys 9-10 25m butterfly), King (boys 11-12 50m freestyle) and William Galik (boys 13-14 50m backstroke).
<u>Indians batter Bullfish</u>
HARRISBURG - Sunday, the Swimming Indians traveled to Harrisburg for a make-up meet and returned with a decisive 479-174 thumping of the host Bullfish. A season-high ten Du Quoin swimmers were triple winners at the meet, O. Cravens and J. Kuhnert accomplishing the task for the third time in four days.

Bailey (boys 13-14 100m freestyle, 50m butterfly, 100m IM), Collin Dorsey (boys 15-18 50m freestyle, 100m freestyle, 100m backstroke) joined O. Cravens (girls 9-10 50m freestyle, 25m backstroke, 100m IM) and Kuhnert (boys 15-18 100m breaststroke, 50m butterfly, 100m IM) with three first place finishes on Sunday.

Other Du Quoin winners at Harrisburg included Lindsey Gossman (girls 7-8 25m freestyle), Melaina Harsy (girls 15-18 50m freestyle), Grace Gomes (girls 15-18 100m freestyle), David Gomes (boys 7-8 50m freestyle), Aaron Korbar (boys 11-12 50m freestyle), and Samuel Manning (boys 13-14 50m breaststroke).
<u>Dolphins rip Red Bud</u>
RED BUD - 11-year-old Savannah Cheek won three events as the Dolphins darted past Red Bud 405-276 on the road Thursday. Cheek claimed first in the girls 11-12 50m butterfly, 50m breaststroke and 100m IM events for Pinckneyville.
Dolphins who won a pair of races on Thursday were Karsen Konkel (boys 6&un 25m backstroke, 25m freestyle), Gailen Hall (boys 13-14 100m backstroke, 100m breaststroke), Brand (girls 15-18 100m backstroke, 100m IM), Ashley McCurdy (girls 9-10 25m butterfly, 25m freestyle), Coleman Choate (boys 15-18 50m butterfly, 100m freestyle), Kyla Epplin (girls 9-10 25m breaststroke, 100m IM), and Olivia Chapman (girls 13-14 100m breaststroke, 100m IM).
