Board of Commissioners receives 2010 Audit

At the July 8, 2011 meeting Auditor Jim Schmersahl presented the 2010 Audit to the Randolph County Board of Commissioners. Schmersahl said that he had complete cooperation of all the county offices and they were operating appropriately in a neat and orderly fashion. There were no disputes or adjustments, the audit went smoothly.

The main discussion during the presentation of the audit was the trend from 2007 to 2010 for the County Municipal Retirement Fund which has increased $877,507 since 2007, with the largest increase in 2010 of $399,327. Schmersahl told the Board that with the market going down this is a problem all across the state not just in Randolph County. The Board has limited the increase that they will have to pay to 10% each year, which spreads out the accumulative amount of the increase over a period of time. In hopes that the market will go back up and the money is made back.

The Board made one new appointment of Denise Ebers to the Randolph County Board of Health she is taking an expired term that ends on July 1, 2012.

Mike Riebling of the County Hwy. Department submitted a resolution to the Board for his Salary which expires in August. The salary includes a 2 1/2% increase, which is recommended by IDOT&#39;s salary program for a total of $102,270.68. This includes salary and expenses for one year. The board adopted the resolution.

Riebling informed the board Board that the bridge work on Grave Creek Bridge began on July 5th. Palestine Road north of Town will be closed while a new bridge is put in. The project should take approximately 3 weeks to finish.

Ken Slavens, Administrator of the Care Center informed the Board that they were having major problems with their fire alarm system, which was installed in 1972. He is currently looking at replacements which will cost them between $25,000 and $50,000. They currently have 55 residents.

Tom Smith, Randolph County Health Department, reported to the bard they had received their annual grant for $63,201. This money is used for food inspections and investigations. The amount the county received is based on population and poverty levels. Smith said that the Health Department has also applied or other new grants.

The Board of Commissions approved a id by the Village of Tilden to purchase a piece of land in their area for the delinquent taxes for a total of $636. The property was taken over by the Trustee in November of 2008.

Sheriff Mike Hoelscher told the board that the new squad cars should be here by the end of August.
