New VanMetre Field Takes Shape

</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[Du Quoin Evening Call Photographer Eugene F. Gallmeister over the weekend achieved a stunning panoramic view of the reshaped VanMetre football field by splicing four separate photographs of the storied stadium into one.

The view is from the east end looking west. You are looking at a concrete pad on this side which is part of the track and field makeover, graded and rolled rock on the field and the new outline of the track. The field itself will then receive two grades of rubberized granules before the artificial turf is laid. That work could begin within the next two weeks.

The field is scheduled to be ready for Du Quoin's home opener against Herrin September 9. The Indians first two games are away.
