Area youth are invited to join a new 4-H Art SPIN (Special Interest) Club being organized this summer in Chester. 4-H SPIN clubs focus on a single topic and introduce youth to a specific hobby or interest over the course of a minimum of six meetings. Through their SPIN Club experience, kids develop a sense of belonging, independence, generosity, and mastery and most of all, they have fun learning new skills. Volunteers from the Mississippi Valley Art Guild will lead the club. Youth in grades kindergarten through fifth grade (for fall 2011) are eligible to join. The 4-H club will meet on July 19-21 and July 26-28 from 3-4:00 p.m. at Please Don't Drink the Paint Studio located at 680 Stratton in Chester, IL. Youth will enjoy painting, drawing, sculpture, and many other fun projects. There is no fee for current Randolph County 4-H members to join. The fee is $20 for non-4-H members. All supplies will be provided. Participants can join by contacting the University of Illinois Extension Office in Sparta at 443-4364. The deadline to sign up is July 13. Space is limited. Anyone needing disability or dietary accommodations to participate in the 4-H SPIN Club is asked to indicate when registering.
