SOFTBALL: Hale, Kasban pitch Falcons past Scheller
</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[The Pinckneyville Falcons kept their Southern Illinois Fastpitch League record perfect with a pair of wins over Scheller on Wednesday night, with Bryant Hale firing a one-hitter in a 7-0 five-inning win in game one, and Rick Kasban picking up the 8-1 victory in the circle in the nightcap.
Home runs from Haven Hicks and Lyle Winter highlighted the offense in game one for the Falcons, with each registering a pair of runs in the third inning.
Four straight singles by Derek Beninati, Hicks, Mason Woodside and Lyle Winter in the fifth helped seal the decision.
Beninati led the way with a perfect 3-for-3 effort at the plate, scoring twice. Hicks (2-3, HR, 2 R, 2 RBI), Woodside (1-2, BB, 2 R, RBI), Winter (2-3, HR, R, 3 RBI), Kasban (1-3) and Jay McCrary (2-3, RBI) also hit safely in game one.
In the second game, Eric Saunders (2-4), Beninati (2-4), Hayden Hicks (2-3), Hav. Hicks (1-3) and Winter (1-3) hit safely.
The Falcons take on 2011 Kelso Klassic champions Pete's Blues next Wednesday, June 29 in SIFL play with the first of two games beginning at 7:15 p.m. Pinckneyville has a mark of 10-0 in the league, Pete's is 7-5.
The Blues swept Makanda in other SIFL action on Wednesday night.
