</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[Approximately 200 firefighters representing nearly 100 departments and emergency services agencies in three states were in Du Quoin Tuesday night to pay their respects to the family of Du Quoin firefighter Corey Shaw. Corey died from injuries in a large downtown fire in the City of Pinckneyville last Friday afternoon. Firefighters representing almost every department in Southern Illinois as well as towns in Kentucky and Missouri, including the City of St. Louis Fire Department, were in attendance.
By 6:45 p.m. more than 650 had signed the memorial registry and by 8 p.m. approximately 1,000--including the firefighters--had filed through the gymnasium.
Visitation was held at the Du Quoin Middle School from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. The school's parking lot--front and back--was full. City of Du Quoin offices closed at 3:30 p.m. to allow city employees to attend the visitation together.
The casket was near the back wall of the gymnasium with large floral bouquets lining the room.
Two firemen stood at attention on either side of the casket. Funeral services are at 10 a.m. today at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. The funeral procession will then pass between raised aerial ladder trucks near the fire department with the American Flag hanging from above.
West Main Street was closed between Chestnut and Hickory streets as nearly 100 fire trucks, rescue units, ambulances and state agency vehicles were in Du Quoin for the services.
Corey was the son of Du Quoin Fire Chief Bob Shaw and wife Rosalynn. Survivors include his wife, Nichole, three-year-old daughter Camryn and Corey's sister, Megon Provart.
Father Nick Junker of Sacred Heart Catholic Church officiated at today's funeral.
Burial was in the Old Du Quoin Cemetery.
