Juvenile accidental shootingin Walsh

On June 12, 2011, the Randolph County Sheriff's Office responded to a 911 call that reported an accidental shooting of a juvenile male on Zion Church Road, Walsh, Illinois. Sheriff's Deputies responded and found that a twelve year old juvenile male had been accidentally shot with a .22 caliber long rifle with hollow point round in the upper right leg by another twelve year old juvenile male. Apparently the young juvenile males were in an outbuilding and discovered the rifle that was unsecured. Sheriff's Deputies were on the scene within six minutes and provided first aid to the victim until Medstar Ambulance arrived. The shooting victim was transported by Medstar Ambulance to Arch Air Medical, and was flown to Cardinal Glenon Children's Medical Center in St. Louis, Missouri for treatment. The shooting victim was treated, admitted over night and released the following day.
Sheriff Hoelscher urges parents to keep all firearms locked up and away from Children or secure all firearms with gunlocks. Sheriff Hoelscher states that the Randolph County Sheriff's Office has gun locks available to the public at no charge. The gunlocks can be picked up at the Sheriff's Office Monday thru Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
