BASEBALL: P-DQ Legion falls to Sparta
</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[The Pinckneyville-Du Quoin American Legion Posts 2504 & 704 baseball team fell to Sparta American Legion Post 396 by the score of 21-17 on Monday evening at Rigdon Field in Pinckneyville.
Sparta had just 13 hits, but drew 15 walks off of P-DQ Legion pitching.
Catcher Adam Barczewski led the way for P-DQ at the plate, going 2-for-6 with three runs batted in. Trent Bigham (1-3, 3 RBI) and Marian Brammeier (1-4, 2B, 3 RBI) also drove in three runs.
Bryce Harre (1-3, 5 R, 3 SB), Brandon George (2-3, RBI), C.J. Opp (1-4, RBI), Taylor Beninati (1-4, RBI, 2 R), Brandon Long (1-5, R) also had hits for Pinckneyville-Du Quoin.
Dylan Meier, Sam Kuhnert and Noah Hepp shared the pitching duties.
Posts 2504 & 704's squad is back action this Sunday at Marion. The P-DQ Legion team's record for the season so far is 3-2 after winning three out of four games this past weekend in Tennessee.
The team's pitching staff this season is loaded with talented local arms including George and Bigham, who just returned from Peoria after helping lead the Du Quoin Indians to Third Place in Class 2A.
Also available for coaches Derek Beninati and Alan Engelhardt this year is Southern Illinois River-to-River Conference Mississippi Division co-champion Pinckneyville's ace hurler, Evan Chapman.
