Students were encouraged to go just one day without shoes to demonstrate what it is like to not have any shoes. The event was designed to collect new or good, used shoes for people from other countries that do not have any shoes. Project Chairperson, Laura Liefer, (right) who also serves as Life Jacket President, heard of the idea on the internet and organized the shoe-collection effort through the Life Jackets. Rebecca Young, (left), who serves as the CHS Drug Free Youth President, assisted Liefer with the project. As can be seen, Liefer's car trunk is completely full of new or good used shoes that were collected from student body donations. Liefer noted, "Across the world, thousands of children and adults do not have shoes and they often get foot disease from sores created from small cuts on their feet. Often these diseases totally disable or even kill these unfortunate people". Students and staff at CHS collected and donated about one hundred pairs of shoes to a world-wide project designed to help fight this issue. The project was a success and hopefully the CHS shoes will help prevent others from being inflected with potentially harmful or even deadly foot issues.
