BASEBALL: Falcons eliminated in Steeleville
</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[The Falcons' baseball season came to a close on Monday afternoon in Steeleville, as Elveardo fell 17-3 to the Warriors in the opening game of the IHSA Class A Marissa Regional tournament.
Starting pitcher Troy Stewart shut down the Warriors through two innings to keep the game scoreless, but Steeleville exploded for ten runs in the third and seven more in the fourth to secure their spot in the regional semifinals on Tuesday against Marissa.
Elverado picked up all three of their runs in the top of the fifth inning. Jacob Jeschke reached on an error to lead things off, then Antonio Bombardo grounded into a fielder's choice but reached safely. Bryce Mathis followed with an RBI double to plate Jeschke, then Stewart and Brian McClanahan came up next with back-to-back sacrifice flies to complete the Falcons' scoring.
Mathis (1-3, 2B, R, RBI), McClanahan (1-2, SAC, RBI) and Matt Miller (1-2, 2B) each had hits for Elverado. Other Falcons seeing action in Monday's regional game were Christian Kistner, Collin Hester, and Wesley Ramsey.
The Warriors and the top-seeded Meteors will meet on Tuesday at 4:30 p.m. in Marissa to determine one of Saturday's two regional finalists. The other semifinal in the Marissa Regional, set for Wednesday at 4:30 p.m., features second-seeded Trico and third-seeded Chester.
