It's Official: Water from Rend Lake Flowing in Tamaroa Pipes
</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[Doug Pollex of Southern Engineering announced that the switch from Du Quoin to Rend Lake water is complete. The lines in the village have been pressurized and tested.
There is about two miles of pipe in the southwest that will be pressure tested and chlorinated before the services are connected.
A computer monitoring system will be installed as soon as possible. Pollex said he has not yet heard back from the installers.
County Engineer and head of the Unit Road District Doug Bishop told Pollex that the permits for the project require that the roads and ditches be returned to pre-construction conditions.
Bishop said that there are a lot of clogged ditches and gouged road surfaces.
Pollex said he is aware and has made the contractor, J.K. Trotter, aware, as well. Trotter's contract requires that he do all the repairs Bishop mentioned.
As for the ditches, some of them may see improvement in the coming week. Many of the worst ditches will be cut into again to connect services.
Trotter has until June 30 to have substantial completion on the water services. He then has until September to complete repairs, Pollex said.
He added that the recent boil water order was not the result of the water project. A valve malfunctioned at the pump station, causing the problem.
The board adopted an ordinance amending the ordinance authorizing the waterworks system revenue bonds to change the life of the bonds from 41 years to 40 years.
Pollex also passed on the good news that the Village has received a 75-25 USDA-RD matching grant to repair the roof on the community center. Southern Engineering will handle the planning and specifications for the roof project and will bid it. The Village needs to submit a right-of-way docket for the project.
Village Attorney Matt Foster was asked to prepare and submit the docket.
The estimated price of the roof replacement was $90,000. USDA will pay 75 percent of the cost. Tamaroa is responsible for the remaining 25 percent.
