BASEBALL: Indians fall at Nashville, sweep Woodlawn
</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[DuQuoin High School Baseball had a busy weekend. Friday, the team traveled to Nashville and then on Saturday played two games at Woodlawn. DuQuoin lost to Nashville 16-6 in five innings on Friday. Saturday, DuQuoin beat Woodlawn twice 18-10 and 16-2.
The Friday game at Nashville ended 16-6 in Nashville's favor. DuQuoin scored three in the third and three in the fifth inning. Nashville scored three in the second inning, four in the third, three in the fourth, and six in the fifth inning.
The losing pitcher for DuQuoin was Connor Wheeler. He pitched three innings allowing 5 hits, 7 runs (6 earned), had 4 walks, and 2 strikeouts. Sam Kuhnert relieved going two innings, allowing 9 hits, 9 runs (8 earned), 1 walk, and had 2 strikeouts.
DuQuoin only had three hits. Brandon George was 2-3 including a home run with two on and had 5 RBI. Connor Wheeler was 1-2. Kegan Robbins was 0-1 with an RBI (sacrifice fly). DuQuoin had two errors in the contest.
The Jr. Varsity lost to Nashville as well 12-3.
Saturday was a better day for the Indians as they traveled to Woodlawn. This game was not on the schedule until Friday evening. Because of all the weather related cancellations, DuQuoin was trying to find some games to fill in.
In the first game, DuQuoin won 18-10. Offensively, DuQuoin had a great game. J.C. Davis was 3-6. Kegan Robbins was 1-3. Brandon George was 3-5 with 2 RBI. George had a solo home run in the game. Drew Bennett was 1-3 with 3 RBI. His hit was a home run with two on. Trent Bigham was 2-4 including a double. Connor Wheeler was 2-5. Seth Baxter was 2-3 with 5 RBI. Baxter had a double and grand slam home run. Jacob Stanhouse was 3-4 with 3 RBI. Stanhouse had a home run with one on. Travis Chapman was 2-4 with 3 RBI. Chapman had two home runs in the game.
Kegan Robbins was the winning pitcher going 4 2/3 innings. He allowed 6 hits, 7 run (6 earned), had two walks and 8 strikeouts. Sam Gossett relieved going 2 1/3 innings allowing 4 hits, 3 runs (all earned), had 4 walks and 2 strikeouts. Brendan Fred pitched 1/3 inning with a strikeout.
Game 2 was much of the same for DuQuoin. DuQuoin won 16-2 in five innings. J.C. Davis was 1-2. Nate Boss was 1-2. Kegan Robbins was 1-3 with an RBI. Howard Kelly was 1-2. Brendan Fred was was 0-0 with an RBI. Garrett Dorsey was 0-0 with an RBI. Camden Youngman was 0-0 with an RBI. Trent Bigham was 1-1, a double with 2 RBI. Connor Wheeler was 2-2 with 6 RBI. Wheeler did something quite unusual hitting two home runs in the same inning as the Indians batted around. Jonah Spencer was 1-2, a double with 2 RBI. Cory Campanella was 2-4 with an RBI.
Trent Bigham was the winning pitcher going 4 innings. He allowed two hits, 1 earned run, had 4 walks, and 8 strikeouts. Nate Boss relieved for one inning allowing 2 hits, 1 run (earned), had 2 walks and one strikeout.
DuQuoin's record is now 7-12 and 1-6 in the conference.
Coach Tim Craft commented on the two Woodlawn games. "Both games, we were very aggressive offensively, and we swung the bats very well. It was difficult to play with the wind blowing the way it was, but the pitchers did a good job."
DuQuoin doesn't play again until Wednesday, when they travel to Zeigler-Royalton-Christopher. Thursday, there is a home game with Anna-Jonesboro. This will be the Senior game. Friday, DuQuoin travels to Sparta and on Saturday to Carmi White County, where they will play both Carmi and Woodlawn again.
