BASEBALL: Hornets knock off Indians

</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[DuQuoin High School Baseball played with Nashville through six innings. The score was tied at 5-5 in the top of the seventh when Nashville scored an unearned run to take the lead at 6-5.

DuQuoin had an opportunity to score in the bottom of the seventh, but left two runners stranded.

Nashville scored one run in the first inning, four in the third, and the winning run in the seventh. The Indians escaped a bases loaded situation in the second inning to minimize the Hornets&#39; damage to that point.

DuQuoin scored one in the third, three in the fifth, and one in the sixth to tie the score.

DuQuoin was hampered by three errors in the game while Nashville only had one. The last run scored by Nashville was the result of an error. DuQuoin&#39;s record is now 4-11 overall and 1-5 in the conference.

Nashville used two pitchers during the game. Meier pitched five innings allowing 4 runs, 5 hits, had 4 strikeouts, and no walks. The winning pitcher was Goodrich. He pitched two innings allowing one run, two hits, and had two strikeouts.

DuQuoin also used two pitchers. Kegan Robbins pitched four innings allowing 5 runs (one unearned), six hits, had 3 strikeouts, and three walks. Brandon George relieved, pitching 3 innings. George allowed one unearned run (the winning run), 2 hits, had 2 strikeouts, and one walk.

DuQuoin had 7 hits total. Kegan Robbins was 1-3. Brandon George was 1-3 with a double. Drew Bennett was 1-3 with a triple and 2 RBI. Seth Baxter was 2-4 with an RBI. Connor Wheeler was 1-3 with a double. Travis Chapman was 1-2.

Coach Tim Craft commented, "we have been putting together some pretty good games lately, but we cannot get over that hump. We just have to find a way to win. We did a lot of good things, and it was a pretty good ball game. We just did not finish it out."

DuQuoin plays a doubleheader at home on Saturday, April 23 with Harrisburg (11:00 a.m.).
