Chester wins three of four
</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[Catching up on some recent Chester baseball action, the team had two easy victories in the recent Marissa Tournament. They defeated Elverado 11-0 in five innings and defeated Crab Orchard 15-7.
In the Elverado contest, the Yellow Jackets put up four runs in the first inning, two in the second, one in the third and five in the fourth. Caleb Arbeiter was the leading hitter with two doubles and a single in three at-bats while Zach Lochhead had a double and a single, Justin Eggemeyer hit two singles, Trever Brant had a home run and Jeremy Wahl and Matthew Heberlie added one single apiece. Lochhead worked five innings and allowed only two hits, walked one and struck out nine for the win.
In the victory over Crab Orchard, the Yellow Jackets fell behind 1-0 after two innings but came back with two each in the third and fourth, six in the fifth and five in the seventh. Wahl connected for two home runs and a single and finished with five RBI's. Other offensive leaders were Greg Rowold with a double and two singles, Arbeiter with a home run and a single, Brant and Dalton Misuraca with two doubles each and Heberlie with a double. Eggemeyer was the winning pitcher. In four innings he allowed five hits and walked two. Lochhead pitched two innings of relief and gave up two hits while striking out three. Arbeiter also worked one inning and gave up three hits while striking out two.
Wednesday's action saw Chester top Dupo by a score of 8-5. Neither team could get on the board in the first two innings, then both teams managed a total of five runs each in the middle part of the game. The sixth and seventh innings proved to be the difference as the Yellow Jackets scored twice in their half of the sixth while holding Dupo scoreless. Arbeiter hit two doubles, Eggemeyer hit a double and a single, Misuraca had a triple and Rowold and Lochhead added one single each. Lochhead was also the starting pitcher and lasted five innings. He allowed six hits and struck out six. Arbeiter piched up the win by allowing no hits and only walking one while striking out three in the last two innings.
The Black Diamond Conference era for the baseball program got off to a rough start as Chester fell to Trico by a score of 7-0 on Thursday. The big inning for the Pioneers was the fifth when they scored five of their runs. Chester's offense could only manage three hits: two singles from Arbeiter and a double from Brandon Young. Eggemeyer took the loss for the Yellow Jackets. In 4 1/3 innings he allowed eight hits and struck out one. Rowold pitched 1 2/3 innings and gave up no hits, walked two and struck out one.
