SOFTBALL: Chapman throws shutout, PCHS remains perfect
</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[In a make-up game that was originally scheduled for last Friday, Pinckneyville pitcher Emily Chapman shut out Alton Marquette and the Lady Panthers improved to 8-0 after a 2-0 victory on Wednesday afternoon.
Chapman (4-0) threw all seven innings for PCHS, allowing just a pair of hits and a walk while recording six strikeouts.
Taylor Cheek continued to sizzle at the plate, going 2-for-3 with a triple and an RBI. Cheek has now hit safely in six of her last eight trips to the plate, driving in three runs along the way with a pair of doubles and Wednesday's triple.
Shersty Stanton (1-3) had the other Pinckneyville RBI, also connecting for a triple. Chapman (1-3) and Maddy Keith (1-4) had the Lady Panthers' other hits.
Senior Taylor Cicardi saw her first action of the spring for Pinckneyville, going 0-for-1 at the plate but reaching base twice with a walk and a hit-by-pitch.
Weather permitting, the Lady Panthers (8-0) will host the Panther Softball Invitational this Friday and Saturday at the Perry County Fairgrounds in Pinckneyville, kicking off the event on Friday afternoon at 4:30 p.m. against Vienna.
