DHS Principal Wants Teaching Assignment Instead in2011- 2012
</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[Du Quoin High School principal Lybrand Beard has asked to be reassigned as a classroom teacher during the 2011-2112 school year.
The request came without explanation. Supt. Dr. Gary Kelly said there will be slots available that can be a good fit for the career educator. The district will begin a search for a new high school principal.
The Du Quoin Board of Education Thursday approved a $20,726 contract with Chase Porter Construction for retrofitting the maintenance shop on the former Big "S" Transport property that will be used as the offices for MV (bus) Transportation, Inc.
The contract is part of the migration to a new Du Quoin High School campus.
The Board also approved the continuance of completing the removal of concrete and debris through George's Excavating at the newly acquired property south of the football field.
The board approved the appointment of the district administration to begin preparation of the 2011-2012 school year budget, further to authorize notice of budget hearing for 2011-2012 school year budget for Sept. 15, 2011.

The board approved the annual renewal of IHSA membership for DuQuoin High School.
The superintendent announced the District #300 Educational Foundation annual dinner event will be held on Saturday, May 7, 2011 beginning at 6 p.m. in the K- 8 School Commons. The Foundation will be awarding over 30 scholarships through the foundation scholarship program and will be honoring four alumni for their various accomplishments.
The Board adopted the 2011-2012 school calendar. The proposed school year will begin on Monday, Aug. 12, 2011 with a Teacher Institute Day with students first day of attendance being Monday, Aug. 15, 2011. The tentative ending date for students will be Tuesday, May 22, 2012 with a Teacher's Institute day being held on Wednesday, May 23, 2012.
The board set the middle school promotion and high school graduation dates for this school year. Middle school promotion will be held on Friday, May 20, 2011 and high school graduation will be held on Saturday, May 21, 2011. Both events will be held at the Du Quoin State Fairgrounds Grandstand beginning at 6:30 p.m.
The Board accepted the retirement notice of Jackie Woosley as an elementary school teacher effective at the end of the present school year.
The board accepted the resignation of Jennifer Morgan as a Middle School teacher effective at the end of the present school year.
The Board employed Adam Fornear as District Cafeteria Supervisor for the 2011-2012 school year.
The Board approved the annual reduction-in-force notices for certain extra-curricular positions held by non-DEA members in accordance with contract between Du Quoin Education Association and Board of Education. Notices for these positions include Jacob Emling as Middle School Assistant Boys Basketball Coach and High School Assistant Softball Coach, Angie Harris as Middle School Yearbook Sponsor, Roger Craft as High School Assistant Boys Track Coach, Jeromie Morgan as High School Assistant Baseball Coach, Kent Leek as High School Cross Country Coach, Barb Croessman as High School Magnavox Co-Sponsor, and Staci Davis as High School Assistant Volleyball Coach
The board re-employed the following certified staff members for the 2011-2012 school year:

Second year certified staff members employed as third year continued contractual probationary certified staff: Dacia Kurfman, Jessica Lore, Janelle Moore, Charles Montgomery, Kristin Wilson Rebecca McCrary
Third year certified staff members employed as 4th year continued contractual probationary certified staff: Sarah Brock, Derek Beard, Tyler Krone, Sara Geiger
Fourth year certified staff employed as continued contractual certified staff and granted tenure: Amanda Melton, Jeremy Cornett, Nathan Crain, Kathy Toler, Nicole Heisner, Celena Lowes, Lindsey Snider, Ryan Summers, Leah Winter, Denise Woodsides, Christina Harsy
The Board re-employed all tenured certified staff for the 2011-2012 school year.
The Board employed the following to extra-curricular positions for the 2011-2012 school year: Missy Montgomery as Middle School Academic Activities Coordinator and Larry Alvarado as Middle School Builder's Club Sponsor.
