County Considers New GIS Maintenance Contract

The Perry County Board agreed to vote on an agreement with Bruce Harris and Associates for updates and maintenance to the county's GIS mapping services at the next board meeting April 7.
The county has had a contract with Bruce Harris to map all of the parcels in the county for the past several years. Now that the county is mapped, maintenance must be done to keep the system current.
Supervisor of Assessments John Batteau that under the proposed agreement, the county would pay $85 per change. He estimated having about 100 changes per year.
Batteau said there were adequate funds in his budget currently to pay for the changes.
County Clerk Kevin Kern said he is pleased with the GIS mapping done by Bruce Harris and Associates and hopes to link it to other land and tax records used by the County. However, Perry County will be paying for just the mapping services for through 2012.
Batteau said that the complaint period for the board of review runs from March 11 to April 11. Anyone who would like to make an appointment for the board of review to reconsider the valuation of their property needs to go to Batteau's office in the Government Building and fill out a complaint. The Board of Review will meet each Tuesday and Thursday in April except on the weeks when the County Board meets. Those weeks the Board of Review will meet on Tuesday and Wednesday.
In other business, the board:
agreed to allow Zoning Administrator Jeff Ashauer to gather information on a new air conditining system for the Government Building. The air conditioning went out last summer and could not be repaired for several days. When the necessary part was located a warranty was not available because it was damaged in transit from Memphis, Tenn.
passed an ordinance establishing a policy for interoperability of emergency communications equipment, per federal guidelines. Perry County EMA Coordinator David Searby said the county is "ahead of the game" in interoperability.
passed resolutions updating the intergovernmental agreement with the City of Du Quoin for emergency management purposes and appointing Brandee Horn to the EMA staff.
re-appointed Ross Zeidler to the Perry County Housing Authority board.
