VOLLEYBALL: Murphysboro defeats DMS
</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[DuQuoin Middle School played three very close games with Murphysboro on Monday evening, but just could not stop the Blue Devils. The Warriors lost the match 2-1 with game scores of 25-18 Murphysboro, 25-22 DuQuoin, and 15-9 Murphysboro. DMS overall is 12-5-1 and 6-3 in the Conference.
Carissa Graham was the leader in digs with 8, and assists with 5. She was 14-14 at the serving line scoring 10 points with 6 aces. Hope Fenton led in kills with 5; she was 4-4 at the line scoring 2 points. Amanda Atteberry was 6-9 at the line scoring 5 points with 5 aces. Jacqueline Harsy was 1-2 on serves. Alaina Caldwell was 8-10 at the serving line scoring 6 points with 3 aces. Sydney Lewis was 11-12 at the line scoring 9 points. Others seeing action were: Tamera Hamilton, Amber Williams, Jessica Harsy, and Shelby Simmons. The eighth grade is coached by Isaac Miller.
Coach Isaac Miller was not happy with his team's performance. He commented: "It depends on which team for DuQuoin shows up each night? Tonight we did not have the intensity on the court that we needed. But when we get that (intensity), I think we can go far this season."
The seventh grade team was more fortunate and won their match 2-0 over Murphysboro. The game scores were 25-17 and 25-16 in DuQuoin's favor. Their record is now 11-3 overall and 8-1 in the Conference.
Alaina Caldwell was 7-8 on serves scoring 6 points with 5 aces. She had 3 kills and 1 assist as well. Grace Bastien was 6-6 at the line scoring 4 points with 2 aces. Ivy Nessa had 2 kills and 1 dig. Katey Harsy had 1 kill. Taylor Gates was 11-11 at the serving line scoring 9 points with 4 aces. Gates also had 1 kill and a dig.
Sydney Lewis was 9-10 at the line scoring 7 points with 4 aces. Lewis had 2 kills, a dig, and an assist. Allyson Morgan was 3-3 at the line scoring a point with an ace and 1 dig. Brittany Clark was 5-5 at the line scoring a point, had 1 kill and 1 dig. Abigail Vancil (Libero) was 4-4 at the line scoring one point, and had 3 digs. Other Warriors seeing playing time were: Sydney Valier, Harley Dearmond, Carlie Daffron, Madeline Cravens, Timbra Mansfield, and Kristyna Queen. The seventh grade is coached by Staci Davis.
The sixth grade played two games prior to the seventh grade match. They play ten minute games. The score of the first game was 19-16 DuQuoin. The second game went to Murphysboro 24-11. The match was a 1-1 tie. The sixth grade is coached by Paul Miller.
DuQuoin plays at home on Tuesday, March 8, with Nashville. (4:30) This is another conference game for DMS.
