Herald Tribune publisher promoted

</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[Brent Easton, publisher of The Randolph County Herald Tribune and Steeleville Ledger, was recently promoted to publisher of The Benton?Evening News and the Christopher Progress.

Once a replacement has been found and trained, for the Herald Tribune and Steeleville Ledger, Easton will take over the duties later this month in Benton.

He replaces Daniel Malkovich who passed away earlier this month. Prior to his passing, Malkovich served in the capacity of publisher for 10 years.

" It is an honor to be asked to serve as the publisher of the Benton?Evening News and the Christopher Progress, and to follow in the footsteps of Danny Malkovich," said Easton.

The Benton Evening news is a daily newspaper, publishing five days a week, and boasts a circulation of 3,000. The Christopher Progress is a weekly, publishing on Thursdays.

Easton will have ten employees under him.

Easton started his career in the newspaper industry as an advertising representative for the Grit Newspaper thirty-one years ago. From there, he worked at the Southern Illinoisan as a delivery carrier for the Murphysboro area. In 2000, he became the advertising representative for the Murphysboro American for two years. He then worked at the Daily Republican in Marion as an advertising representative.

He successfully worked his way up to publisher of The Randolph County Herald Tribune and Steeleville Ledger in June 2005.

While in the position, Easton successfully met budget and created numerous niche promotions.

"This is a bitter sweet transition from Chester to Benton. Leaving clients, employees and friends of almost 6 years will make this exciting transition sorrowful," said Easton. "I have come to love the communities of Randolph County, and have throroughly enjoyed serving you. On the sweeter side of things, I look forward to serving the people of Benton, Christopher and Franklin County.
