Warriors top Yellow Jackets

A big crowd turned out last Tuesday to see the visiting Steeleville Warriors take on the host Chester Yellow Jackets in high school boys basketball action. Steeleville took a 16-11 lead after one quarter, but Chester fought back and briefly took the lead before settling for a tie at halftime. The teams continued to battle back and forth during an exciting third quarter, but the Warriors finally wrapped things up by outscoring the Yellow Jackets 20-13 in the fourth quarter.

Steeleville&#39;s offensive leaders were Torrey Gerberding with 19 points, Andrew Pokrzywinski with 18, Coire Reel with eight, Nick Potter with six, Colin Smith and Joey Wittenbrink with five apiece and Darin Winkelman with two.

Zach Lochhead led Chester with 25 points while Chris Schwartz scored nine, Caleb Arbeiter put in eight, Justin Woodward had seven, Matt Chandler put in four and Brandon Straight added one.

The junior varsity game went to Steeleville by a score of 49-38. Chester led by one after the first quarter but Steeleville outscored the Yellow Jackets in each of the next three quarters.

Winkleman and Jacob Combs each scored 17 points for Steeleville while A.J. Jeffers scored six.

Chester&#39;s scoring leaders were Kyle Landon with 10, Jacob Lochhead with nine and Dalton Misuraca with six.
