Christ Our Savior Varsity Scholastic Bowl Team achieves first regular season win against Sparta
</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[In October 2010 The Christ Our Savior Soldier's Scholastic Bowl Team began its inaugural season and has been participating far and wide in tournaments from one end of the state to the other. The season began with a trip to Springfield to compete in the SCOP Novice tournament. They gained much experience in one day as they played 8 matches against tough central Illinois teams. They experienced their very first win in Springfield against PORTA's B team. They then traveled to Concordia University Chicago to compete in the Annual Lutheran High School Math/Science Bowl where they achieved victories against Luther East, Rockford, and Christ, Buckley Lutheran High Schools.They were eliminated in the quarterfinals. Since Christmas break, the Soldiers have traveled to Waterloo to play Gibault, resulting in a loss. On January 22nd they again traveled to Springfield to compete in the Springfield Invitational Tournament. On Feb. 7th, in Sparta, the Soldiers scored their first regular seaon win againt the Bulldogs with a score of 57-42. The Soldiers travel to Greenville to compete in the Comet Invitation on Feb. 12th, and to Cobden to compete in the Masonic Regional tournament on Feb. 19th. An upcoming home match is scheduled against TriCo on Feb. 17th. The season will close with Regional/Sectional/State play at Herrin High School beginning on Mar. 1st. This year's team consists of Seniors: Courtney Caldwell of Columbia, Eric Jolley of Baldwin, and Ben Laufer of Renault, Juniors: Sarah McCluskey of Ellis Grove, Hali McKenzie of Tilden, Naomi Mehring of Chester, Cory Rehmer of Baldwin, and Jeremy Rogers of Evansville, Sophomores: Luke Boeder of Maeystown, and Marcus Delre of Evansville, and Freshman Sean Boyd of Tilden. The Soldiers are coached by Mrs. Ann Ryherd.
