Chester Women's Club holds January meeting
</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[The Chester Women's Club met Friday, January 28 at the First United Methodist Church. Hostesses for the day were Cynthia Lawder and Mary Ann Koeneman, co-chairmen; Dotty Fleming, Caroline Schwent, Linda Sympson and Mary Ann Stumpe. In keeping with January weather, Snowmen decorated the tables.
The program on arts and crafts was presented by Caroline Wylie, assisted by Becky Browning and Tonya Robbins. Wylie spoke briefly about various types of crafts that were on display and explained the methods involved in their creation. She challenged each member present to create either a handmade Valentine and/or a potpourri sachet during the program segment of the meeting. All involved enjoyed the activities.
President Louise Liefer conducted the business meeting. Betty Wagner announced that plans are beginning for the Club's newest project, a CHS Senior Girls' Tea which will be held in the Spring. Corresponding Secretary Cathy Sauer asked members to notify her when members are ill, so that she can send "get well" wishes. It was announced by Chairman Mary Ann Koeneman that the Club's annual Maundy Thursday Prayer Breakfast will be April 21 at the Chester Country Club. Pastor Peter Ill of St. John Lutheran Church in Chester will be the guest speaker. Tickets for the prayer breakfast will be available for sale at the Club's February and March meetings.
Program Chairman Wilma Whittenberg announced that the program for the February 25 meeting will be "Chester - Then and Now". Members are welcome to bring photographs and/or memorabilia relating to Chester's history. A particular concentration will be on Chester's 1200 to 1300 block of Swanwick Street and the courthouse block.
The February 25 meeting will begin at 1 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church fellowship hall. Hostesses will be Marsha Link, Chairman; Norma Baughman, Ruth Rowley, Jean Link, Jane Mueller, Linda Roth, Marian Lutz, Jeanne Kleinschmidt and Retha Jones.
