</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[The DuQuoin High School Girls Basketball Team continued play in the Carbondale Invitational Tournament Friday evening. In the final game of the tournament, DuQuoin handily beat Madison 70-52. With this win, DuQuoin's record becomes 12-11. Coach Shawn File was happy about the win because the Indians are back over .500 again.

The first quarter had DuQuoin ahead 19-15. But DuQuoin had a big second quarter and pulled ahead 38-20 at the half-way mark. In the third quarter, DuQuoin was up 69-36. The fourth quarter had a continuous clock because of the big lead. Coach File was able to play everybody during the fourth quarter so the starters saw no action.

Jessica Hirsch had a great night with 22 points, including three-three pointers. Taylor King had a good night with 14 points followed by Rebekah Maddox with 12 points. Bailie Caldwell had 8 points, Hailey Stewart had 4, Steffanie Gates 4, Abby Myers 3, and Shelby Presley 3. Katrina Whitley, Morgan Dennis and Ashanti Warren also saw playing time for the Indians.

Three Indians are still on the disabled list--Ashley Ward, Curry Emling, and Cassidy Rice.

Coach File commented that "we ran our transition game really well tonight. We got up and down the floor. Taylor King had a really good game. Rebekah Maddox had all 12 of her points in the first half.

She got into some foul trouble in the third quarter. Rebekah had a double, double; she also had 10 rebounds. It was a good night and a good tournament for us. We lost the first two games to two South Seven schools (Carbondale and Mt. Vernon). We got better and got lots of experience in this tournament. The freshmen really stepped up. It is nice to have a winning record again."

DuQuoin travels to Carterville on Tuesday for a conference game.
