Chat With Wese

Old Man Winter has struck again! I am looking forward to spring. And the yearly weather predictor will make his forecast known in a couple of weeks. That's right, folks, Groundhog Day is just around the corner. Now for those of you who wish to travel to Pennsylvania to watch the "official" Groundhog forecast, here are a few things you might want to know.

Did you know that Punxsutawney Phil has a wife? Her name is Phyllis and you can purchase a plush toy Phil or Phyllis at the festival. Also, you may have breakfast with Phil and even feed him some nuts while there. Tickets are $10 for adults and $7.50 for kids.

And then you can listen to the Inner Circle Banquet Guest Speaker who is Jim Koch, Brewer and Founder of the Boston Beer Company. Tickets for the banquet are $25.00 each. And while there, don't forget to stop in and visit the Punxsutawney Weather Discovery Center. Admission is $4.00.

Pennsylvania's official celebration of Groundhog Day began on Feb. 2nd, 1886. The legendary first trip to Gobbler's Knob was made the following year. Up on Gobbler's Knob, Phil is placed in a heated burrow underneath a simulated tree stump on stage before being pulled out at 7:25 am to make his prediction.

Some famous people have been born on Groundhog's Day. They are Farrah Fawcett, Tom Smothers, Forrest Tucker, Christie Brinkley, and Garth Brooks.
