BASKETBALL: TSB girls advance to semifinals
</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[Tamaroa-St. Bruno jumped ahead 16-4 by halftime and cruised past Ashley Grade School 37-19 to advance into the semifinals of the Class S, Region 3 girls' basketball regional tournament being held at Pinckneyville District #204 School.
The Lady Indians got 14 points from Kaylee Rulevish, who has now scored in double figures and pulled down at least eight rebounds in each of the last five games for Tamaroa-St. Bruno (13-13, 3-3).
Dalis Hubler chipped in 9 points, Raven Alvis and Mayci Doerflein each added 4, Tamara Williams, Delaney Bandy, and Olivia Szczepanski each had 2.
TSB again played without Chelsey Moss who is out with appendicitis, but coach Jimmy Harris is hopeful Moss can return to action soon.
The victory makes six straight wins for the Lady Indians, who advance into Thursday's semifinal with regional host Pinckneyville District #204 (21-4). The Lady Tigers received a bye in round one of the regional as the top seed.
Tamaroa-St. Bruno's girls won for the fifth straight game on Monday night to close out their regular season schedule with a 31-27 victory over Desoto at the St. Bruno gym.
TSB jumped ahead 14-0 before Desoto finally scored near the end of the opening quarter. The visitors outscored the Lady Indians 13-2 in the second quarter to trail by only one at halftime, but a strong defensive third period carried TSB to a win on eight grade night.
Rulevish led the Lady Indians with 13 points and 10 rebounds, Hubler added 10 points, Williams 4 and Alvis and Cassie Andrade each had 2.
TSB's JV squad (6-9) closed out their season on Monday with a fourth consecutive victory, topping Desoto 24-18. Mayci Doerflein led the way with 9 points, Delaney Bandy pitched in 7.
<u>PJHS boys pull away from Chester</u>
Pinckneyville Junior High School (District #50) improved to 10-8 on the year with a 58-37 home win over Chester on Monday evening as three Junior Panthers finished in double-digit scoring.
PJHS jumped ahead 15-4 in the opening quarter and extended their lead after the halftime break with a 21-10 third quarter.
Austin Ferguson had a game-high 19 points, Trent Hicks had 14, Dalton Gant 10, Zach Hagene 7, Alec Brand 4, Jacob Downard 2 and Ryan Harris 1.
The Junior Panthers (10-8) are now off until January 18 when they travel to Christopher (6:00 p.m. - JV).
<u>#204 boys top TSB</u>
After falling to Giant City this past Saturday for only their second loss of the season, Pinckneyville District #204 rebounded with a 52-31 victory over Tamaroa-St. Bruno on Tuesday night at the Tamaroa Community Center. The loss brought to an end a four-game winning streak for the Indians.
Caleb Dahn led all scorers with 28 points and also grabbed 8 rebounds for the Tigers. Brian Taylor had 9 points and 9 rebounds, Jacob Jackson added 5 poins, Layton McNew 4 points and 5 assists.
The Tigers (20-2) are off until Tuesday, January 18 when they are at Steeleville. Tamaroa-St. Bruno (14-8) hosts Trinity Lutheran Hoffman this Thursday at St. Bruno.
