</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[While DuQuoin's Varsity played with Nashville the first half, Nashville was able to pull away in the second half and beat DuQuoin 66-39 on Saturday afternoon in a game rescheduled because of the bad weather earlier in December.

Nashville's Girls Varsity Basketball Team is highly touted and with good reason. They are physically large, athletic, well-disciplined, and very patient.

At the end of the first quarter, Nashville led 15-12. DuQuoin continued to work hard against a larger opponent, but was behind 31-22 at the half. Nashville pulled away from DuQuoin in the third quarter 51-28. The final score was 66-39. DuQuoin's record is now 9-8 overall.

Jessica Hirsch led DuQuoin's scoring with 20. She had 5-three pointers in the game. Curry Emling had 8 points, Rebekah Maddox 5, Cassidy Rice 3, and Taylor King 3. DuQuoin's record moves to 9-8 overall.

Hailey Stewart, Ashley Ward, Abby Myers, Bailie Caldwell, Steffanie Gates, and Shelby Presley also had playing time for the Indians.

Coach Shawn File commented, "We came out and played extremely well and were hot from three-point land. Their press really did not beat us. We got some open looks; we were more patient on offense, and we got some shots, and we hit them. We really played right with them the first half. They are bigger than we are. Rebekah Maddox did a very good job of fronting their post player. I am proud of the effort by our team. We shot more free throws than Nashville, which is a first. I was pleased with our performance today."

The Junior Varsity team also lost. The final score was 63-10. Nashville scored 23 straight points in the first quarter before DuQuoin's Shelby Presley scored a basket. Taylor King scored 3 points, Abby Myers 2, Bailie Caldwell 2, and Hailey Stewart 1. Cassidy Rice, Katrina Whitley, Morgan Dennis, and Ashanti Warren also saw playing time in the game. The JV record is 3-5.

DuQuoin travels to Sparta on Tuesday, January 11, for a conference game.
