BASKETBALL: Junior High Roundup (12-14)
</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[<u>PJHS girls repeat in rematch with #204</u>
After handing District #204's girls their first loss of the season on November 29, Pinckneyville Junior High School (District #50) backed it up by doing it again last night, this time at home.
The Junior Panthers edged the Tigers 24-21 on Tuesday, spreading around the scoring amongst six players and using a strong second quarter to build their lead.
Defense was the story in the second half, as PJHS won the third quarter 3-2 and held on for the win despite being outscored 9-4 in the fourth.
Raygan Yates led PJHS with 9 points, Maddie Jones finished with 6, Kaitlyn Goldman 4 (all in the fourth quarter), Brooklyn Morrow 2, Keelyn Stein 2 and Taylor Griffin 1.
For the Tigers, Sophie Keith had 9 points, Taylor Smith 6, Megan Bagley 4 and Torrie Carter 2.
The Junior Lady Panthers (11-7) are home again on Thursday against Nashville (6:00 p.m - JV).
<u>#204 boys keep rolling</u>
Pinckneyville (District #204) won again on Tuesday, improving to 18-1 for the year with a victory over Elverado.
Brian Taylor led the Tigers with 13 points, Caleb Dahn added 11 points and a dozen rebounds.
The Tigers are now off until January 4 when they host Akin (6:00 p.m. - JV).
<u>DMS boys beat Benton</u>
Three Warriors finished in double figures and DMS improved to 7-4 (4-3) with a 48-36 victory over Benton on Tuesday.
Jacob Wright led DMS with 16 points, Jarred Thomas added 11 and A.J. Smith 10.
"We have a long way to go, but we continue to improve a little each and every game," said Warriors' head coach Ryan Heape.
"I look forward to the long break and the opportunity for us to get better."
The Warriors are off until January 4, a home game against Herrin (6:00 p.m. - JV).
<u>DMS girls win over Chester</u>
The DuQuoin Middle School girls basketball team traveled to Chester on Tuesday evening, and came away victorious in the eighth grade game. DuQuoin handily beat Chester 32-14.
DuQuoin got off to a good start going ahead 12-4 at the end of the first quarter, and maintaining a significant lead of 19-7 at half-time. The third quarter was a low scoring quarter for both teams and ended at DuQuoin ahead 23-10. The final score ended up with DuQuoin winning 32-14.
DuQuoin's record is now 8-9 overall and 4-5 in the conference. The leading scorer for DuQuoin was Jacqueline Harsy with 10, followed by Carissa Graham 9, Marisa Ferguson 8, Amanda Atteberry 4, and Jessica Harsy 1.
Coach Debbie Ritter thought her team "played a very good game even when it started getting physical."
The seventh grade team was not as fortunate losing to Chester 31-28. Leading scorer was Andrea Morgan with 10. Timbra Mansfield scored 8, Brittany Clark 4, Jaylyn Williams 4, and Alaina Caldwell 2. The seventh grade's record is 4-9 overall and 3-6 in the conference. Chuck Montgomery is the seventh grade coach.
The DMS girls travel to West Frankfort on Thursday, December 16.
