</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[Earlier in the season (at the DuQuoin Tip-Off) the Murphysboro High School Girls Basketball Team beat DuQuoin by one point to win first place in the DuQuoin Tip-Off. That loss was revenged on Thursday evening when DHS beat Murphysboro 65-37 at Murphysboro. It wasn't just a one point win, but a 28 point win! That is worth repeating--a 28 point win!

DuQuoin started out strong winning at the end of the first quarter by a score of 12-4. At half-time, DuQuoin was up 28-10. The third quarter had DuQuoin ahead 45-26, and finally dominating Murphysboro at the end of the game 65-37.

DuQuoin's scoring was very well balanced with all nine players scoring. Leading scorer was Jessica Hirsch with 13 followed closely by Ashley Ward and Taylor King with 12. Rebekah Maddox scored 9,

Curry Emling 6, Shelby Presley 6, Cassidy Rice 3, Hailie Stewart 2, and Steffanie Gates 2. DuQuoin's overall record is 6-2 and the conference record is 1-1. Maddox also was credited with 11 blocked shots and 11 rebounds.

Coach Shawn File was "very pleased with the victory. We had a very balanced game. We passed the ball well. The guards did a nice job of handling the ball, and getting it to the open player. We played very well on offense. We also did a nice job on defense with the zone. Everybody did their part. We were the better team tonight."

The Jr. Varsity score was unavailable, but they lost their game. Their record is 2-2.

DuQuoin is on the road next week. They travel to Pinckneyville on Tuesday, December 14. On Thursday, December 16, they head to Nashville. Both of those games are conference games.
