BASKETBALL: Nashville notches wins over DMS teams

</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[The DuQuoin Middle School boys teams (eighth grade) was able to stay with Nashville the first quarter, but got outscored 12-7 in the second quarter. From there, Nashville dominated in the second half going on to beat DMS 49-29. Nashville is undefeated so far this season. DuQuoin&#39;s record is 6-4 overall and 3-3 in the conference.

The leading scorers for DuQuoin were Jarred Thomas and A.J. Smith with eight apiece. Jacob Hunziker followed with 4, Jacob Wright 3, Lane Valier 2, Jacob Valier 2, and Jon Harsy 2. Nolan Showalter, Jordan Harsy, Jerry Kuhnert, Tucker Kuhnert, Cole Hopkins, Jordan Carson and Hunter Behm also saw action for the Warriors during the game. Coach Ryan Heape was able to play all of his players in the game.

Coach Heape was "obviously disappointed about the loss. We did not shoot the ball very well from the perimeter, and it was tough to get any inside looks."

"We have made improvements, we handled the press better and did a better job on the glass (rebounding). It is small steps at this level. We need to continue to work hard and improve."

The seventh grade team, coached by Jacob Emling, had similar results against Nashville. They lost 43-25.

The leading scorer for DMS was Cole Hopkins with 10, Tucker Kuhnert had 6, Hunter Behm 4, Braden Heape 3, and Jordan Edwards 2.

Ryne O&#39;Rourke, Chad Heatherly, Trace Klein, Nicholas King, Caleb Vogel, Luke Metten, Blaine Bradley, and Imari Dunklin all played in the game as well.

DMS travels to Chester on December 13 for another conference game.

DMS GIRLS STUNG BY HORNETS

The DuQuoin Middle School Girls Basketball Team suffered a loss at Nashville on Thursday evening. DMS was behind at the end of the first quarter by 15-5. Nashville led at the half 26-9. Nashville eventually won the game 39-17.

Coach Debbie Ritter commented that Nashville was a very good team, with some outstanding shooters. Nashville&#39;s Jordee Harre was the top scorer with 13 points.

DuQuoin&#39;s leading scorer was Jacqueline Harsy with 6; Andrea Morgan had 5, Marisa Ferguson 3, Amanda Atteberry 2, and Carissa Graham 1. The eighth grade record is 7-9 overall and 3-5 in the conference.

The seventh grade team suffered a similar defeat losing 22-13. Scoring for the seventh graders were Alaina Caldwell 6, Brittany Clark 2, and Andrea Morgan 5. Their record is 4-8 overall and 3-5 in conference play. The seventh grade is coached by Chuck Montgomery.

The DMS Girls travel to Chester Tuesday, December 14, 2010.
