BASKETBALL: DMS tops PJHS in double-OT thriller
</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[Du Quoin Middle School won a wild double-overtime thriller in 8th grade basketball last night, outlasting Pinckneyville Junior High School 50-46 after hitting big shots to tie the game both at the end of regulation and overtime.
"It was just an ugly battle that no one deserved to lose," said DMS head coach Ryan Heape.
Jarred Thomas was the only Warrior to finish in double figures with 11 points, followed closely by Nolan Showalter and A.J. Smith who each had 9. Jacob Wright had 7 points, Jerry Kuhnert 5, Jon Harsy 4, Jacob Valier 3, Lane Valier 2.
For the Junior Panthers, Austin Ferguson led all scorers with 22 points, Zach Hagene added 10, Trent Hicks 7, Stephano Euells 4 and Jacob Downard 3.
DMS (6-1, 3-1) takes on Centralia tonight while PJHS (Dist. #50) hosts Sesser.
<u>#204 girls lose second straight</u>
Pinckneyville (Dist. #204) dropped their second game in a row on Tuesday night, falling 45-39 in overtime at Steeleville after three starters had fouled out of the game.
Megan Bagley led the Tigers with 12 points, Sophie Keith added 10, Taylor Smith 9, Torrie Carter 6 and Caitie Opp 2.
After trailing most of the way, Pinckneyville (Dist. #204) led by three points in the fourth quarter, but allowed the lead to slip away down the stretch. Bagley, Keith and Carter each were on the bench with 5 fouls when the game came to an end.
Steeleville's Allanah Renner led all scorers with 24 points.
The Tigers (15-2) host Trico this Saturday at 1:00 p.m.
<u>Benton blows past PJHS</u>
The Junior Lady Panthers (Dist. #50) failed to capitalize on Monday's big win at District #204, dropping a tough one to Benton 45-17 on the road last night.
Keelyn Stein led PJHS with 8 points, Raygan Yates added 3, Jessica Presutti, Kaitlyn Goldman and Brooklyn Morrow each finished with 2.
Pinckneyville Junior High School (8-6, 3-3) travels to Sparta on Thursday (6:00 p.m. - jv).
