"Last year, when we played defense we won" said Mumbower. "When we didn't, we lost some games that we should have won."
Last year's squad finished one game below the .500 mark. To have a season with more wins than losses, Mumbower feels his squad needs to find some success in tournament action. But that won't be an easy task.
"We are in three tough tournaments: the Trico Invitational, the Pinckneyville Duster Thomas Tournament after Christmas and the Sparta Mid-Winter Classic" explained Mumbower. "In each tournament we're probably the smallest school (in enrollment)."
In addition to the tournaments, the Warriors will compete in the Cahokia Conference and face non-conference rivals Trico, Chester, Sparta, Red Bud and Okawville.
Nick Potter, Andrew Pokrzywinski, Coire Reel and Colin Smith are all seniors and returning starters from last year. Torry Geberding and Joey Wittenbrink are also seniors and will be key players this season. Junior Jacob Combs and sophomor Darin Winkelman
