Alleged Burglar Done In by His Own Phone

Assistant Chief of Police Jamie Ellermeyer said officer Steve Ingram was patrolling in mid-town when he saw what he thought was a burglary suspect in the alley just behind the old Ward School--now the Tri-County school. The suspect fled and Ingram tracked the suspect on foot for over a block. As Ingram got close, suspect Billy D. Curtis' cell phone rang, tipping Ingram as to his exact whereabouts in the dark.

Police theorize the call was from an accomplice, checking on his whereabouts. Power and hand tools found in boxes outside the Batson garage at 115 East North were identified by the owners. The suspect--on parole--is in jail on burglary charges.
