VOLLEYBALL: Du Quoin can't handle Hornettes
</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[ Behind nine kills from Jenny Moeller and eight more from Kourtney Heggemeier, Nashville remained undefeated in the S.I.R.R. Mississippi Division with a 25-15, 25-16 victory over Du Quoin last night at Anders Gymnasium.
The tone was set with the first play of the game. Nashville put a double block on a Kelsey Toler spike that scored the first point of the game. DuQuoin hung in the game to go to 3-3. Nashville committed several errors to put DuQuoin in the lead at 6-4. Nashville came back to tie at 6-6 and never looked back after that. Nashville's hard spikes and quick sets were too much for DuQuoin to handle. DuQuoin lost the first game 25-15.
In the second game, DuQuoin started with the serve. Nashville immediately spiked one down to score. DuQuoin was behind 4-0 before Keawna Anders was able to score off a spike. The second game was another example of Nashville spiking hard and DuQuoin's defense unable to stop them. Nashville commanded the second game with their spikes, quick sets, and work at the net. DuQuoin could not muster much offense against Nashville. The final score of game two was 25-16. DuQuoin's record is now 21-8 overall and 5-4 in the conference.
Cassidy Rice (10) and Anders (6) led in digs. Rebekah Maddox had 5 kills and Anders four. Megi Jones led in assists with 7. Anders had five points on serve while Jones and Rice had 3. Jessica Martin and Maddox had one block each.
Melanie Rhine led the Hornettes with 23 assists and two blocks.
The Junior Varsity volleyball team lost their match also. The game scores were 25-19 and 25-17 with Nashville winning both games and the match. Annie Bastien and Hailey Stewart led in digs with 8. Kate Toler followed with 7. Toler led in kills with 3 followed by Bailie Caldwell and Latesha Nesbitt with 2. The Junior Varsity record is now 5-6
The Indian Freshmen were the highlight of the evening taking the match from Nashville 21-20, 20-21, 15-6. Abby Myers, Kate Toler, and Hailey Stewart led in digs, Myers and Caldwell led in kills. The Freshmen record is now 15-2.
DuQuoin travels to Anna-Jonesboro on Thursday evening for another conference match.
