Chester's football squad came back from their loss to Johnston City and defeated Eldorado 39-24 in Friday night's homecoming game.
Chester drove 62 yards on their first possession of the game, with a 53- yard run by Stephen Roth putting six points on the board at the 7:26 mark. The extra-point attempt was blocked.
Late in the first quarter Eldorado recovered a Chester fumble and eventually got their first points on a 36-yard touchdown pass and a successful two-point conversion, briefly giving them an 8-6 lead.
On the ensuing kickoff, Eldorado successfully recovered their onside kick attempt but could not score as Chester's defense held strong.
When Chester got the ball back they put together a nice drive that was capped by a nine-yard touchdown run by John Baughman at the 9:32 mark of the second quarter.
Chester's next possession also resulted in a touchdown with a three-yard run by Roth making the score 18-8 with 3:33 left in the first half.
That could have been the halftime score, but a Zach Lochhead pass with only 17 seconds left was intercepted by Eldorado and taken 62 yards for the score. Eldorado's two-point conversion put them back in the game, trailing 18-16 at halftime.
The Yellow Jackets ate up a lot of clock with a lengthy drive in the third quarter and scored on an eight-yard pass from Lochhead to Baughman. The two-point conversion made the score 26-16 Chester.
Chester put the contest away with two scores early in the fourth. Baughman broke free for a nice 53-yard run at the 11:47 mark and Blake Nanney scored on a nine-yard run at 8:45 to go on top 39-16.
Eldorado tacked on one more touchdown and two-point conversion at the 1:07 mark to make the final 39-24.
Roth was the leading rusher for Chester with 196 yards in 20 carries and Baughman had 149 yards in 11 carries. Clint Cole added 38 yards. Lochhead completed three passes in six attempts, two to Baughman for 15 yards and one to Brandon Straight for 13 yards.
