Sidewalk repairs discussed at meeting

</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[The Chester City Council discussed sidewalk repairs and procedures at their meeting Monday night.

"They authorized the city engineer to prepare the necessary paperwork to bid the sidewalk program out," stated City Clerk Nancy Eggemeyer.

Through the State of Illinois and their capital bill program 'Illinois Jobs Now' the city is set to receive $36,383 by mid October. The council approved the money to be used for sidewalk improvements.

The council went on to approve the Beautification Commissions recommendation of a donation to the Eagle Scout project of Matt Heberlie, not to exceed $2,000. The project will consist of work on the city steps.

In other council news:

The mower purchase for Cohen Complex was tabled, pending getting funding in order.

The council approved the mayor's appointment of Richard Pautler to the Library Board.

A discussion was held regarding vacating Fairview Street by the high school superintendent's office.

The nest meeting will be held on Monday, October 18, 2010 at 7:00 p.m. at city hall in the council chambers.
