BASEBALL: Nashville edges Warriors

</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[ Du Quoin middle school baseball will head into Regional action on Thursday coming off of a loss to Nashville, as the Warriors dropped a 6-5 meeting yesterday afternoon after giving up too many extra chances.

Jacob Valier pitched all seven innings for DMS and allowed just two earned runs while striking out five, but the Warriors couldn't get things done early with runners in scoring position.

"This was a tough game to end our regular season," said DMS coach Tim Craft. "We gave Nashville too many easy opportunities and they are too good to give any extra opportunities."

A.J. Smith led the Warriors at the dish with his 3-for-4 (2B, RBI); Noah Campbell 2-4 (RBI); Ryne O'Rourke 2-3; Carter Leake 1-3; Cole Hopkins 1-4; J. Valier 1-4; Dalton Day 1-4; Lane Valier 0-4 (RBI).

"We had some early strikeouts with runners in scoring position that really hurt us. Jacob really threw a great game, we just were unable to take advantage of our opportunities."

The Warriors will have to shake it off in time for Thursday's Regional game at Herrin, when they will face West Frankfort at 3:00 p.m. for the opportunity to play for the championship on Saturday (11:00 a.m.) against either Herrin or Johnston City.

"We have to move on and get ready for our regional now," Craft commented.
