Methodist Church to Begin Contemporary Service
</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA["CROSSWALK," a contemporary worship experience launches at First United Methodist Church in downtown Du Quoin on Wednesday, September 15 at 6:30 p.m. This forward-thinking congregation is seeking to live into the denominational emphasis of "Open Minds, Open Hearts and Open Doors" by creating a new worship experience in an alternative style. The Worship Planning Team purposefully chose the name "Crosswalk" based on the New Testament scripture found in Hebrews 12:2 (TLB) - "We do this by keeping our eyes on Jesus, the champion who initiates and perfects our faith. Because of the joy awaiting him, he endured the cross, disregarding its shame. Now he is seated in the place of honor beside God's throne." Our logo, created by a graphic designer in our congregation, reflects the journey of the crosswalk; seeking Jesus, finding Jesus and walking with Jesus - each and every day of our lives.
While many persons enjoy traditional church music characterized by choral anthems and the sounds of the pipe organ, still others are drawn to the upbeat, high energy, and multi-instrumental sounds of contemporary expressions of musical worship. Crosswalk will cater to the demographic of persons who prefer an informal worship experience with minimal liturgy, and high energy congregational singing using a combination of media based and live music. The church's Pastor, Rev. Mike Ebersohl noted that while the service will have an "informal" feel that it will still be well thought-out, utilizing a variety of multi-sensory aspects of worship, and concentrating on a flow and focus that will help the worshipper make a heartfelt connection with God. Rev. Mike added, as a coffee lover, that after each Crosswalk service the church will offer a terrific cup of coffee and hot tea, and a kid-friendly drink, too. Child care for infants through 5 years old will be offered for this worship experience in the church nursery.
We know it's a tough world out there, and all of us need a guiding hand. The Bible encourages us to stay focused on Jesus, who has already walked where we walk and who knows the ropes. Jesus endured the cross for us because He knew we couldn't do it. When we keep our eyes on Him, the journey is so much easier. Jesus welcomes you to join Him on an exciting journey of faith. That's what a "Crosswalk" is all about. Seeking Jesus. Finding Jesus. Walking with Jesus - each and every day of our lives. Pasor Ebersohl says, "Join us on the Crosswalk at First United Methodist Church, 25 N. Washington St., Du Quoin, Ill. (across from Keyes Park) each Wednesday evening at 6:30 p.m."
