DMS teams victorious on Tuesday
</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[ DuQuoin Middle School was losing 8-5 in the bottom of seventh inning and managed to score 3 to tie the game. The Warriors then went into the top of the eighth inning with the momentum. They held Sparta to no hits or runs in the top of the inning and came up to bat in the bottom of the inning. Jacqueline Harsy walked, Carissa Graham hit a single up the middle, and Timbra Mansfield walked to load the bases. Nikki Ridgeway hit a ground ball to the shortstop, who went to second for the force out while Harsy scored the winning run. That mental error gave DuQuoin a 9-8 conference victory. DuQuoin is now 9-3 overall and 6-0 in the conference.
Marisa Ferguson pitched all eight innings for DuQuoin She had 9 strikeouts, 4 walks, one hit batter, and allowed 8 hits. The majority of runs were unearned as DuQuoin committed five errors on defense. The Sparta pitchers had 9 strikeouts, 5 walks, and allowed 13 hits. Sparta committed four errors in the extra inning game.

DMS BASEBALL WINS AGAINST SPARTA
The DMS Baseball team did some serious hitting against Sparta on Tuesday. The good hitting and the performance of A.J. Smith on the mound gave DuQuoin a 9-3 victory over Sparta. Smith pitched 5 innings, allowing 3 runs (1 earned) and four hits, had 12 strikeouts and 4 walks. Noah Campbell relieved Smith and threw two innings allowing no runs, one hit, and had 3 strikeouts.
Hitting for DuQuoin: Jacob Valier 3-3, 2B, RBI; A.J. Smith 1-2, RBI; Noah Campbell 2-3, two 2B; Lane Valier 2-3, 2B, 3 RBI; Tucker Kuhnert 1-3, 2B; Carter Leake 1-2 , 2B, RBI; Nolan Showalter 0-1, RBI.
DuQuoin's record is now 7-2 overall and 5-1 in the Conference. Coach Tim Craft thought Smith pitched well and did a good job. "There were a couple of plays that got away from us. We hit the ball well in the first inning, then struggled a bit. We were winning 4-3 and then had some good at bats. I thought we played pretty well today."
DuQuoin travels to Pinckneyville on Wednesday to take on another conference rival. (4:00)
