Lady Indians finish second at Marissa
</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[ On Friday evening, DuQuoin (Pool C winner) and Valmeyer (Pool D winner) squared off at the Marissa Volleyball Tournament in the semi-finals. DuQuoin's record of 8-1 moved to 9-1 with a win over Valmeyer. The game scores were 21-16, 18-21, and 21-19. DuQuoin took the match at 2-1 to move into the finals.
The starting line up of Rebekah Maddox, Megi Jones, Kelsey Toler, Keawna Anders, Michaela Brown, Jessica Hirsch, and Ashley Ward (Libero) had to play hard against a very capable and scrappy Valmeyer Pirate team. Jessica Martin and Chandra Gilliam also played in game two. DuQuoin kills in this match were: Maddox 9, Toler 10, Brown 1, Jones 2, and Anders 2. Jones had 13 assists. Ashley Ward had 8 digs, Brown 9, Jones 10, Anders 5, Hirsch 5, and Martin 3. Ward led with 18 points on serve, Anders had 4 points plus an ace, Toler 2 points, Maddox and Jones one, Brown 3 and Hirsch 5 points with one ace.
DuQuoin played for the championship of the tournament against Trenton Wesclin in the final match of the evening. The third place game was won by Waterloo Gibault over Valmeyer 2-0. The championship match was won by Wesclin 21-17 and 21-13. The loss gave DuQuoin a 9-2 record overall and a second place plaque. DuQuoin finished 4-1 in the tournament.
In the championship match, Ward had two points on serve, Anders 2, Toler 3, Maddox 2, Brown 1, and Hirsch 3. Maddox led in kills with 6, Toler 2, Brown 3, and Anders 3. Jones led in assists with 8. Ward had 5 digs, Brown 5, and Anders 6.
DuQuoin's Rebekah Maddox was placed on the All-Tournament team. Coach Isaac Miller commented "(I think we're) off to a great start this year. The girls are really buying into the team concept. It is paying off. Our record is 9-2. We had a great tournament; we just ran into a team (Wesclin) that was darn good!"
DuQuoin does not have any matches/games scheduled for next week, but will take next week to recuperate and get some good practices in.
