Drunk Driver Hits Du Quoin Squad Car

</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[A 21-year-old Pinckneyville man has been charged with drunk driving after hitting a Du Quoin Police Department squad car at 5 a.m. Friday morning.

Police say officer Phil Schimanski was stopped in traffic on Rt. 152 just west of Bethel Lutheran Church about to turn into his driveway when a driver identified as Josh Leyba, 21, of Pinckneville drove around traffic that was stopped behind Schimanski and hit the squad car in the driver's side door.

The 2009 squad car received major damage and Leyba was charged with DUI and failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident.

Both drivers were taken to Marshall Browning Hospital for observation and later released. Du Quoin police say Leyba was traveling between 55 and 60 mph when his car impacted the Du Quoin squad car.
