</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[After a busy Fourth of July weekend in Steeleville, the village board held their July meeting on Thursday. Mayor Mike Armstrong and several of the board members commented on the good attendance and positive reactions to the fireworks display and the other events. Police Chief Lyndon Thies reported one arrest at the park but no other problems. Mayor Armstrong did note some concerns with the parade and the the types of items being thrown from the floats, which may have to be addressed before any future parades.

Based on recommendations by the Zoning Board, the village board approved a motion to change 302 and 304 Victorian Drive from SR1 to Commercial and to approve a special use permit for the senior living facility.

Two bids were received for the sale of a dump truck. The higher bid, for $750 from a gentleman from St. Louis, was accepted.

Based on a request by a business owner, the Board approved an amendment to Ordinance 10-638 which will establish a 15-minute parking area in front of Steeleville Liquor on North Sparta Street.

A motion passed to donate $250 to the Car Cruize, which is to be held on July 17. The same amount was donated by the Village Board last year.

The Village of Steeleville has scheduled hydrant flushing to take place on July 19-21.

During his time Mayor Armstrong discussed a recent major water main break on Williams Street. He thanked the maintenance department on their hard work and commented that they are getting very good at fixing water breaks. The Village was aware of the loss of water pressure throughout town during that time, but it was unavoidable due to the way the water main had to be repaired.

The Mayor also discussed some other projects that are being worked on, but no motions were taken at this time. The liquor license ordinance may be rewritten in the future as there are currently seven classes of licenses, which they Mayor feels could be combined to three. Also, some discussion was held on the siren system, which is in poor condition and in need of replacement.

A motion passed to accept the appointment of Jan Wolters to the Zoning Board.

Executive session was held to discuss property acquisition and personnel, but no motions were made.
