Beattie gets new contract
</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[The Sparta District 140 Board of Education and Superintendent Larry Beattie entered into a new three-year contract to begin July 1. The new arrangement calls for an annual salary of $97,000.
Administrators Denise Ebers, Greg Jones, and Laura Woodworth were granted a 4.09 percent pay increase, the same as that given to the district's teachers. Noncertified, non-union staff salaries will be upped by four percent, the same as service employees.
In personnel matters, Denise Moscardelli, who'd accepted a science teaching position at the high school has informed the board she is no longer interested in the position.
Jonathan Norton was approved as head baseball coach at Lincoln Middle School. Matt Blair was named assistant cross country coach and Abbey Miles was approved as assistant volleyball coach-both at Sparta High School. Mary Stolte was approved as the Students Against Drunk Driving sponsor at SHS.
The board accepted low bids from Quivey Sanitation, Inc. of Sparta for daily trash pickup services at a monthly rate of $830 and from Midland Paper to provide copier paper in the amount of $25.77 per case.
In other business:
The Lincoln Middle School improvement plan was approved.
Handbooks for the district for 2010-2011 were approved.
A new rule being implemented will require students to wear shirts with sleeves and either crew neck or collar.
Don Outten was named as the board's representative for Perandoe Special Education District.
The district was approved to join the Illinois Energy Consortium.
