On the Job Training
</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[Du Quoin firemen were called Thursday to what many still remember as the Rushing or Gemmil Dairy building on East Cole Street in Du Quoin, now owned by the Max Voyles family. The time out was approximately 12:40 p.m.
It was actually Du Quoin water department employee Kyle Jones who spotted the fire and radioed city hall. Firemen were at the scene until 5:30 p.m. because the building--now a home--had so many layers of remodeling on the inside. The fire began somewhere between a west central bedroom that years ago was the dairy's cooler and the kitchen. No cause has been determined.
The fire afforded Du Quoin Fire Chief Bob Shaw and newly named Du Quoin fireman Will Riggio--who did a great job-- with some on-the-job training.
Du Quoin, Dowell, Tamaroa, Elkville, Sesser and Pinckneyville firefighters rotated in and out of the structure because of the extreme heat.
The family has no insurance. Call 542-5600 to find out how you can help.
